She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Svend Nielsen and Lois Nielsen of Weeping Water, NE.; her husband Phil; her children, Walker (Kerrie) of Melrose, MA and Lisa (Steve Nelson) of Milwaukee, WI; her siblings, Kathy Seureau (Larry) of Chelan, WA and Armon Nielsen (Nancy) of Lincoln, NE.; her stepchildren, Lynne Schroeder, Tamarah Kent (New Jersey), William Borkenhagen of Morrisonville, NY and Andrea Elwyn (Dunkirk, MD); her grandchildren, Dan, John C., Anna and Amanda; and her stepgrandchildren, Stefan, Dr. John, Ryan, Hannah, Brianne and Corrine. She was also cherished by three great-grandchildren and eleven step- great-grandchildren.
Lys' history additionally includes fundraising efforts for the Susan G. Komen Foundation by walking half-marathons in Phoenix, Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
