He was predeceased by: his father Roger Nelson (Claudia); his grandparents, Norman Nelson (Beatrice) and Rollie Hamilton (Elizabeth); his brother-in-law Gary Studt; and his father-in-law Gordon Stremke.

He is survived by: his mother Peggy Nelson (Conrad); his wife Joan Nelson; his sons, Evan and Alex; his sister Michele Nelson; his uncle Mike Hamilton (Marilee); his nephew Jason Bennett; his siblings-in-law, Bonnie Studt, Mary Simo (Joe) and Gordy Stremke; and his nieces, Julia and Jenna Simo.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Asbury Global Methodist Church (6101 University Ave, Madison, WI 53705). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Seminole Tap (5956 Executive Dr, Fitchburg, WI 53719).
