Schmidt (Barthels); his parents-in-law, Joseph and Catherin Geiger; his son David Schmidt; his grandson Matthew Schleif; his brother James Schmidt; and his siblings-in-law, Gloria Kleman, Anthony Jablonski, Gerald Geiger, Dennis Geiger, Jerome Behnke and Daniel Kleman.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Schmidt; his children, Lee Schmidt (Lois) and Karen Schleif (Barry); his grandchildren, Jeremiah Schmidt (Amy), Bonnie Krueger (Daniel), Erica Linnell (Casey), Laura Rabelo (Matthias), Sara Seubert (Brandon) and Christa Schleif; his great grandchildren, Ava Schmidt, Lane Schmidt, Ruben Krueger, Breanna Krueger, Charlie Linnell, Corbin Linnell, Lincoln Linnell, Lena Rabelo, Naomi Rabelo and Oliver Seubert; his siblings, Carol Jablonski and Carl Schmidt (Arlyle); and his sisters-in-law, Janice Geiger, Marlene Behnke, Stefanie Geiger, Bonnie Slivicke (Gilbert), Sue Fluegge (Daniel) and Beth Fluegge (Kent). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
