He was predeceased by: his father Arlyn Hein; and his brother Kevin Hein. He is survived by: his wife Carol Hein; his sons, Aleksander Hein and Ivan Hein; his mother Marjorie Hicks; his sisters, Jane Hein and Sally Sajdak (Peter); his nephews, Matthew Sajdak and Eric Sajdak (Abby); his mother-in-law Marie Skic; and his siblings-in-law, Stanley Skic (Julie), Matthew Skic (Holly), Mark Skic (Nina), Walter Skic (Brenda), Luke Skic (Michelle), Mary Calmes, Rose Skic-Wilson (Calvin) and Louise Hackel (Mike).
