Schmidt and Florence Schmidt (Paquett); his former wife Angeline Woytasik (Kafkas); his mother-in-law Louise Peterson (Jones); his wife Louise Peterson Schmidt; his sons, Alfred E. Schmidt and Joseph Schmidt; and his siblings, Wilford Schmidt, Christian Schmidt, Florence 'Sis Lee, Lorraine Eastburn and Agnes Basil.
He is survived by: his children, Tim Schmidt (Cassie) of Merrill, Kary Schmidt (Nichole) of Tomah, Scott Schmidt of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Bryan Schmidt of Chilton, Suzette Kolaga (Paul) of Lannon, WI, Rita Timm (Steven) of Princeton, WI, Jennifer Wise (Bill) of Jacksonville, FL and Michele Lohff of Wausau; and his brother Boyce Schmidt (Bernice) of Crivitz. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
