Shirley Ann Reiter Obituary
Nee Boyle) Was born to eternal life January 8, 2023 at age 86. Shirley was born in Madison, March 2, 1936. She grew up in Darlington, daughter of Wilfred and Mary Boyle. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend of 56 years, Robert R. Reiter. Selfless, loving and caring mother to Mary (Tim) Grittinger, Elizabeth, and Annie Reiter. Proud grandma to Ian and Cole Grittinger. Dear sister to Kay (Don) Fahrney and Sue (Tom) Bartling. She is preceded in death by her brother Billy. She is survived by much loved nieces and nephews, as well as family members and friends.
Shirley graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison, took her dietetic internship at Mayo Brothers and earned a Master Degree from Mount Mary College. She was a dietician and taught at Northwestern University School of Nursing and Medical College of Wisconsin. Shirley and Robert traveled extensively when they retired to discover Shirley's Irish and Scottish history. She located relatives in Ireland and worked with family members to build her family tree. She volunteered at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center helping others research their families.
Shirley was proud of her Irish heritage and she loved her family. Her mother Mary told Shirley many family stories. With the help of her writing group she wrote a memoir entitled, "Darlington Days: A Love Story.". This book is a treasure for generations to come. She loved to write and she also loved to sing. She spent many happy hours with the Lumen Christi Choir and the Joy Singers.
A celebration of Shirley's life will take place on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W. Mequon Road, Mequon. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Lunch to follow.
