Mildred N. David Obituary
Nee Nichols) was born March 10, 1925 in Des Moines Iowa to Mildred and Howard Nichols and died on Jan. 5, 2023 in Mequon, WI. Mildred received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, part of the first class to graduate in Occupational Therapy. Following graduation, Millie married Joe David, a marriage that lasted for 68 years. They settled in Milwaukee where they brought up their 6 children. Millie and Joe were leaders in the Christian Family Movement in the Milwaukee region. Through CFM, they became active in civil rights and electoral politics in Milwaukee and were among the plaintiffs in a suit to end de facto segregation in the public school system. During their retirement years Millie and Joe enjoyed traveling together to many places in the world. Summing up her philosophy of religion, Millie believed it all boiled down to following The Golden Rule. She was proud of the fact that she and Joe could give the gift of higher education to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Millie was an innovative problem solver and a great organizer. She will be remembered for her sweet disposition, her resourcefulness, her generosity and appreciation of her many friendships.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents, siblings Marge, Gert, Barb, Nancy, and Al and her daughter Jeannie David. She is survived by her children: Barbara Salas, Susan, Bob (Genie), Mary (Barb Baco), and John (Sandy). David along with nine grandchildren – Joaquin (Lea) & Rafael (Kate) Salas, Justin (Harlan), Robert, Samantha, Zoe, Franny, Simon and Isaac David and Ivory Suttle along with great grandchildren Sarah and Alaina Salas as well as her brother Howard Nichols. The David family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Memory Care unit at Newcastle Place in Mequon for their kind attention to Millie. Visitation Wed, Jan. 11 from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am at the FUNERAL HOME. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery to follow. Reception for family and friends at 2:00 at Newcastle Place, 12600 N. Port Washington Rd. In lieu of flowers memorials to the charity of your choice are appreciated.
