Jon Arthur Cyganiak Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jon Arthur Cyganiak. He entered eternal life on August 25, 2024 at the age of 84. He was a gentle, caring, loving soul. Born on November 25, 1939, Jon grew up on the south side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended St Veronica's School and Notre Dame High School. Coming from a very humble background, he was a first-generation college student who solely paid for his education at Marquette University and graduated in 1961 with a degree in liberal arts with an emphasis on philosophy. He was a loyal student of Dr. James H. Robb. During his time at Marquette University, he was a member of the Rabbits. After several employment paths, he eventually transitioned into the insurance industry, working at Connecticut Mutual for many years, earning his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation and then founded his own employee benefits agency, Cyganiak Planning, Inc in 1973. He appreciated his loyal employees that he interacted with daily at the office for the last fifty-one years.
On September 14, 1968, Jon married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ansay. They built their home life of almost 56 years in Thiensville and Mequon, committed to cultivating a family of four children. Jon was a deeply spiritual man. He and Liz were members of Saint Cecilia's parish in Thiensville for many years and Lumen Christi parish in Mequon in their later years. He deeply loved God, family and country. He attended almost all of the school and sporting events of his children and grandchildren over the years. Jon was an aficionado of the game of golf, playing many rounds over the years at the BOG. In addition to his love of golf, Jon was known as a proud and generous supporter of Marquette University athletics. He also earned the Service to Marquette University award in 2002. Jon additionally became a strong supporter of the University of Michigan women's tennis program and loved University of Michigan football. For over fifty years, Jon was an avid member of the Milwaukee Athletic Club where he participated actively in the EMHAC group and earned the H.A. award in 1999. He enjoyed sharing his good-hearted sense of humor and love with friends and family over the years and was very generous to the community in many different ways.
Jon was preceded in death by his father Ignatius Florian Cyganiak, his mother Florence Beatrice Cyganiak and brother James Ray Cyganiak. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Ann Ansay Cyganiak and his children Marie, Jon (Anne), Liz (Ted) Stuckslager and Sarah as well as his seven grandchildren: Jon William, Ellen, Julia, Timothy, Michael, Lizzie, and Amelia. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and other cherished family members and friends.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the nursing and medical staff at the Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital for their attention and care to Jon in his last few days on earth as well as the Froedtert Wauwatosa campus for the many years of good efforts watching over his health.
Visitation Thursday September 5 from 10:00am until time of Funeral Eulogy at 11:45am. Mass to celebrate Jon's life will follow at 12Noon at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2750 W. Mequon Rd., Mequon.
