Thomas Henry Roberts MD Obituary
Remembering a life of service and commitment.
Thomas Henry Roberts, MD, aged 86, found peace on November 5, 2024, in Menomonee Falls, WI.
Tom was the beloved husband of Mary Budde-Roberts for 37 years. Tom and Mary were a team that shared each other's interests and faced life's challenges together. Tom was a loving dad to his daughter, Lisa (John) Draves; sons, Tom Roberts, Bill (Lori) Roberts, and late daughter Laura Adams. Tom is further survived by his stepdaughter Maggie Lueneburg; stepsons, Rick (Tonya) Lueneburg, Scott (Evette) Lueneburg; grandchildren Nicole, Ryan, Scott, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Abbey, Olivia, and Gavin, and 7 great-grandchildren, along with his sisters Sandy and Marilyn. And many other family and friends.
Born a man of great determination and complexity, Tom led a life marked by proud accomplishments and dedicated service. He graduated from McKinley Grade School, continued his education at West Division High School, and furthered his academic pursuits at Marquette University followed by Marquette Medical School. His passion for medicine was only paralleled by his commitment to his country, serving as a Lieutenant Commander and Ship Surgeon on the USS Hancock (CVA-19) during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971.
After his military service, Tom dedicated himself to a distinguished medical career as a general surgeon in the Menomonee Falls area, holding positions such as Chief of Staff, and Chief of Surgery at Medical Associates and Community Memorial Hospital from 1971 until 2001. He then served as Medical Director and Chief Compliance Officer at Medical Associates until his retirement in 2007. It has been joked that Dr. Roberts has cut open or stitched up or examined every person in Menonmonee Falls. His leadership extended beyond his professional duties, evident in his roles on the Board of Directors at the Wildlife In Need Center and the Finance Committee at West Granville Presbyterian Church, where he was a devout member.
Tom was a modern renaissance man devoting his time, passion and talents to his hobbies that included animal rehabilitation and rescue, woodworking, landscaping and gardening, music, restoring vintage cars, philanthropy, wine making, building a home in Three Lakes Wisconsin and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. His love for animals was profound and shared with his dog Sam, and grand-dog Fred.
Tom's life touched so many; whether his patients during his years practicing medicine, or those he served for the greater good of the community or the animals he gave shelter, comfort and care to when they needed it. He cared for "all creatures great and small", human or animal. His was a life well lived, filled with passion, commitment and service.
Visitation and memorial services will be held at Schmidt & Bartelt in Menomonee Falls, WI, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The visitation will start at 1:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
