He was predeceased by: his father Elroy Piel (Violet); and his brother Daniel. He is survived by: his wife Vicki (Nee Thompson); his sons, Jeffrey Piel (Tasha) and Phil Piel; his grandchildren, Chase and Casyn Piel; his sisters, Joanne Schoenherr (Herb) and Karen Anas (Mike); and his sister-in-law Mavis Roesch (Jerry). He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
