Lois Pearson Obituary
Lois Bletcher Pearson, 75, of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, peacefully entered the church triumphant on August 22, 2022 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She celebrated her 55th wedding anniversary with her husband, Rob, three days before by admiring their wedding photo album.
Lois was born in Milwaukee, attended what is now Brown Deer High School and Carroll University. She earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of Connecticut and eventually built her career as a Child Life Specialist. She was inspired to bring play and education together after experiencing a long hospitalization with her young daughter.
Lois was a pioneer in bringing Child Life to the Midwest as she developed a program at Community Memorial Hospital, and then worked to build programs at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital. Lois taught Child Life courses at Edgewood College, contributed to academic textbooks, and presented at many conferences. In her 40-year career, Lois was a passionate advocate for children and their needs. She also took great pride in her relationships with colleagues. Their friendships were very close to her heart. In May, Lois received a national lifetime of service award from the Association of Child Life Professionals. She was not able to attend the ceremony in Washington, DC, so her friends and family brought the awards ceremony to Lois' living room.
Lois' greatest pride were her three grandchildren. Lois hosted countless Waffle Wednesdays, created amazing crafts, inspired their musical talents, taught them to be fierce card players, and turned every moment into a chance to experience the small wonders in every adventure. She gave them the legacy of knowing they are loved and cherished.
As the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, her quiet faith was the foundation of all she did. She was a lifetime member of West Granville Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee. There she also found a lifetime of joy as a musician. She greatly enjoyed playing the cello for years in the UW Community Orchestra.
Lois loved to travel with her family and always pushed to stay a few more days. She especially loved her trips to the family cottage, Door County, and the Oregon Coast.
Lois is survived by her husband, Rob Pearson; her son, David Pearson and his wife, Chris; her daughter, Joy Hartman, and her husband Darren; and her three grandchildren, Brooke, Emma, and Will. Her beloved golden retriever, Murphy, passed days before her.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, The Rev. Edgar G. Bletcher, her mother, Jennie Murphy Bletcher, and her brother, Timothy Bletcher.
Please join Lois' family in celebrating her life on September 24th at West Granville Presbyterian Church. Service of Celebration at 11:00 am with reception, food, and fellowship to follow. The service will be live-streamed as well for those unable to join us.
Memorials can be made to West Granville Presbyterian Church or the Parkinson's Foundation.
