Judith K. Fields Obituary

Judith K.Fields (nee Kriz), 73, originally of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 25, 2022 in Wisconsin after a brief hospitalization. Private family remembrances will be held at a later date.

Judy was born on September 8, 1948 in Cedar Rapids, eldest daughter to Vern and Sally Kriz. Among her young accomplishments, Judy was named "Who's Who in Baton Twirling" and was frequently found on the back of a horse, reading a book. Judy attended Iowa State University to pursue her nursing degree and later married Thomas Fields.

After Tom's death in 1979, Judy filled her life with many passions. She was an avid and extraordinary cook and baker, hosting countless family brunches with her much-loved coffee cakes. During the pandemic, she kept the family and neighborhood stocked in freshly baked bread as supplies dwindled. She also frequently hosted "new recipe nights," and you were a treasured guest if you were honored with an invitation. Judy was an enthusiastic traveler, reader, movie goer, Trekkie, PBS supporter, margarita aficionado, musical theater lover, solar eclipse follower, and ABBA fan. More than anything, she was keenly devoted to her family.

Judy is preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents, her sister Janet Cucinotta, her brother-in-law Mike Wilson, and her nephew Devin Wilson. She is survived by her brother Steve (Vickie) Kriz and her sister Jeri Wilson. She also has multiple generations of nieces and nephews who will forever remember being affectionately scolded by Teta Judy as "You Jughead!"

In remembrance of Judy, please raise your favorite margarita glass – on the rocks, with salt and lime ("prevents scurvy"). Memorials may be directed to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library or PBS.
