Joan M. Shanley Obituary
Joan Shanley, 88, of Menomonee Falls found peace on November 4, 2022. She was born to John and Anne Maki (nee Lystilla) on July 19, 1934 and raised in Marquette Michigan.
Joan was married to Robert Shanley who preceded her in death. She is survived by her brothers, Armand and Arnold (Carol), and her children; Mary, Patrick (Victoria), Annie and Daniel (Kelly). She will fondly be remembered by her grandchildren; Susan, Tyler (Krista), Hannah, Nicholas, Ellis, Natalie, Sam and great grandchild Lydia. Along with her love of family, she maintained a steadfast relationship with Jesus.
Joan earned her degree in Education from Northern Michigan University where she graduated a Sum Cum Laude Salutatorian in three and a half years.
The consummate educator, she began her elementary school teaching career in Marquette (now named Father Marquette Catholic Academy). She taught and helped run the Menomonee Falls Pre-School Co-op when the family relocated to Menomonee Falls. Later, she opened the Falls Child Care Center, which included a kindergarten class. The Falls Child Care Center originated in her home and grew to two locations. She also assisted several local churches in the development of their own childcare centers.
Joan volunteered and was a member of several organizations and activities including, Christian Women's Club, The Red Hat Society, the Kitchen Band, MOPS, Church Women United, The Finnish American Society, a Church Greeter, and was a Pen Pal to local students. Joan was also an avid knitter, loved a variety of hobbies, and embraced a strong appreciation for the arts and creativity.
Joan and Robert opened Bob's Golf Center in Germantown and served local golfers for several years before selling the facility to Swing Time.
Joan supported several charities including Samaritans Purse, Foot and Mouth Painters, and Milwaukee Rescue Society. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Joan's favorite charities.
Visitation for Joan will be held Saturday November 19 at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Menomonee Falls from 11 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 1 PM. A luncheon at the KC Clubhouse in Menomonee Falls will follow the Memorial Service.
