Dorothy May Templar Obituary

Dorothy May Templar passed away peacefully in her sleep early on Wednesday morning, April 9, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born December 27, 1931 in Juneau, Wisconsin to Henrietta "Hattie" (Hotmar) and Ervin Kohn. She grew up in Juneau and attended Juneau High School where she met Genevieve (Gen) Frontz, her lifelong friend of over 75 years. At age 16, Dorothy met Roger Templar. They married eight years later on December 25, 1955.

Dorothy's family was the center of her life. Daughters Nancy and Jean feel so lucky to have had a mom who was open-minded, non-judgmental, wise, and always supportive. She was a great listener and was sharp and witty to the end. She was an amazing seamstress and sewed everything from curtains to prom dresses, from Barbie and American Girl doll clothes to elaborate Halloween costumes. She loved beer, baking, boating, camping, and traveling, and popcorn parties. Dorothy and Roger enjoyed attending every sporting event, arts performance, and graduation ceremony of their children and grandchildren.

A huge part of her life was boating and waterskiing with family and friends at Silver Lake in Wautoma and Clear Lake in Woodruff. Dorothy started out as the driver of the boat and later served as the observer for water skiers. She was a patient teacher of young skiers, and cheered when they got up on their skis for the first time.

The Templar family took numerous cross country road trips to national parks and major cities while the girls were growing up. Dorothy and Roger loved spending 30 warm and sunny winters in Marco Island, Florida during their retirement years.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by daughters Nancy Templar (Robert Schmitt) and Jean Hartmann (Thomas), as well as grandchildren Hayley Templar Olds (Mitch), Madeleine Templar Schmitt, Matthew Hartmann (Adelaide), Brett Hartmann, and Danielle Hartmann Brown (Adam). Dorothy especially enjoyed her great grandchildren: Jack, Charlee Ann, Ryan, Elin, Oliver, August, Everett, Norah, and Charlie.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 17 from 11AM until time of Celebration of Dorothy's life at 1PM at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home - Menomonee Falls; N84 W17937 Menomonee Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to support the Eye Institute can be made out to the Froedtert Hospital Foundation, Attn: Office of Institutional Advancement, P.O. Box 26509, Milwaukee, WI 53226.
