Donald Joseph Heyrman Obituary
Dr. Donald J Heyrman met his Lord Jesus on June 26, 2024.
He was born in De Pere, WI to Fabian John Heyrman and Leona Mary Heyrman (Nackers). He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Catherine (Liebmann) Heyrman, second wife Patricia Treiber and his siblings, Mary Jane "Dolly" (Cyril) Van Sistine, LoAnn (Jerry) Clabots, James (Mercedes) Heyrman, Gerald Heyrman, and great-grandson Hunter Heyrman. He is survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen "Kitty" (Gerald's wife) Heyrman, 8 children, 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He attended St. Norbert College in De Pere and the University of Wisconsin Madison, where he completed his premedical studies. He earned his Medical Degree from Medical College of Wisconsin's predecessor school, Marquette University School of Medicine in 1956 where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. Later he was awarded the Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 1994, serving as president of the Medical College Alumni Association for several years.
His military service included 2 years in Army infantry in WWII (after 1st year of premed), before his transfer to the Medical Service Corps as an Army Medic Lieutenant in the Korean War. He was proud to be an American and he said, "It was such an honor to serve our country.".
After obtaining his doctoral degree, Dr. Heyrman fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a family physician. He was one of the first physicians in Menomonee Falls, WI. He started Falls Medical Group, which became Advanced HealthCare, currently Advocate Aurora Health. As one of the 10 founding doctors and the 1st chief of staff, he was instrumental in opening Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls in 1964. He was a caring compassionate family practice physician who enjoyed a flourishing practice and ultimately retired after 50+ years. He loved helping, healing, and comforting his patients by making house calls, doing minor surgery and delivering babies, including delivery of his youngest daughter Nancy in the back seat of the car in a blizzard. He enjoyed several leadership roles, including serving as President of the WI Academy of Family Physicians. He was a longtime Walter Zeit Fellow, helped establish the Department of Family Medicine at the Medical College, and enjoyed mentoring medical students.
Donald was surrounded by prayers and the love of family. He received the Eucharist daily, even hours before he breathed his last as he met Jesus in peaceful heavenly light. His love for God and family was boundless. He touched so many lives. He will forever be in our hearts.
The funeral and celebration of Donald's life will be held Saturday July 6, 2024 at 10 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church (N74 W13604 Appleton Ave, Menomonee Falls) followed by private burial with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday July 5, 2024 4 pm-6:45 pm followed by a Prayer Service-Rosary at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home (N84 W17937 Menomonee Ave, Menomonee Falls). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Donald's name to Holy Hill (Hubertus, WI), Angels Grace Hospice (Oconomowoc, WI) or St. Francis de Sales Seminary (St. Francis WI).
