Benjamin C. Sterny Obituary
Benjamin "Ben" Sterny, age 21, tragically passed away in a car accident on Saturday, January 25, 2025. In his short time on this Earth, Ben made an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His caring heart, sharp wit, and unwavering determination were qualities that defined him, leaving an imprint on his family and friends..
Ben was born and raised in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, the beloved son of Paul and Michelle Sterny. He was the younger brother to Matthew and older brother to Katie, growing up in a household filled with laughter and love. His sense of humor was infectious, and his genuine nature made him a joy to be around. Ben was preceded in death by his Nona and Uncle Joe, but his memory will forever live on through his parents, siblings, and the many relatives and friends who cherished him.
Ben's surviving family includes his grandfather, Joseph Sterny, his grandparents Chuck and Ginny Vaughan, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. His extended family, including Aunt Patty (Dan) Sykes, Sue (Tim) Buban, Kevin Vaughan, John (Sue) Sterny, Pete (Lisa) Sterny, and many cousins—Ryan Vaughan, Kyle (Kelly) Sykes, Kelly (Trent) Metzger, Nicholas Buban, Lauren and Olivia Sterny, Patrick Buban, Conor and Liam Vaughan—will remember him with deep affection. Ben is also survived by close family friends Mark, Erica, Luke, and Ava Krzyszkowski, who held him near and dear to their hearts.
Ben was a proud Steamfitter Apprentice with the Steamfitter Local Union 601, where he was known for his dedication, leadership, and remarkable work ethic. He had an innate ability to excel in whatever he put his mind to. Outside of work, Ben loved the outdoors—whether it was hunting, fishing, or camping with his best friends, those moments brought him peace and joy. He also enjoyed time at the gym and had an undeniable love for all dogs, always ready to greet them with a smile and a laugh.
In his youth, Ben was a passionate Youth Leader Camp Counselor at Phantom Lake YMCA Camp, where he earned the nickname "Cardz" for creating the now legendary card game "Ben Sterny," still played by campers today. His intelligence was admired by everyone who knew him.
Ben had big dreams for the future, always driven to work hard and invest in his goals. He envisioned buying land near the family cottage in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, a place that held special memories of summers spent with those he loved.
Though his life was cut far too short, Ben's legacy will live on through the selfless act of tissue donation, which will touch the lives of approximately 75 individuals.
A private memorial service and a celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Ben's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ben's name may be made to Hoovers Hause All Dog Rescue in North Prairie, Wisconsin, or to Phantom Lake YMCA Camp in Mukwonago, Wisconsin.
Ben's family and friends take solace in knowing that his gentleness , dry sense of humor and brilliance will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He will forever be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him and the love he gave so freely.
Rest in peace, Ben. You were deeply loved, and you will be missed beyond measure.
