He was predeceased by: his father Robert McCarthy; and his brother Joe McCarthy. He is survived by: his close friend Shirin "Cherrie" Van Grinsven; his sons, Ryan Matthies of Appleton, Adam Merkel of Appleton and John McCarthy of Sacramento; his grandchildren, Dahmon, Ava, Eliza and Bane; his siblings, Sheila Frederick (Donald) of Appleton, Jim McCarthy of Oregon, Dorothy McCarthy of Appleton and Lance Marheine (Nicole); and his nephew Brady. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
