He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmo Smith and Ruth Smith (Thoney). He is survived by: his wife Joanna Mary Kaseno; his grandchildren, Blaze and Jerzie; his children, Melissa Magdziarz (Mark) of Sturgeon Lake, MN, Christopher Smith (Pamela) of Mellen and Bambi Smith of Mellen; his close friend Karen Parker; his grandchildren, Avery and Jace; and his siblings, Arthur Smith (Diana), Bernard Smith (Carla), John Smith (Sally), Gary Smith, Gerald Smith (Joanne), James Smith (Dawn), Robert Smith (Kevin), Sue Millerman (Paul) and Diana Ksiazyk (Jim). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the National Cancer Institute.
