He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Smoczyk (Ciolkosz) and Stanley "Ed" Smoczyk; and his siblings, Peter, Harry, James, Robert, Ruth and Colleen.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Lee (Krejci); his children, Brian Smoczyk (Deb), Suzanne Kiener (Brett), Jennifer Price (Jamie) and Amy Fletcher (Jim); his sister Lorraine Champa (Louis); and his sister-in-law Roxy Smoczyk (late Robert). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He received the National Science Foundation Grant to attend Temple University and Nebraska Wesleyan University for graduate studies in Physics, and did further graduate work at other universities.
