He was predeceased by : his parents, Matthew Honkanen and Eleanor Honkanen (Miller); his siblings, Lois Honkanen and Robert Honkanen; and his brother-in-law Rodney Heikkila.

He is survived by : his wife June Heikkila; his sons, Jon Honkanen and Jeff Honkanen; his sisters-in-law, Colleen Trepanier (Heikkila) and Patricia Heikkila (Hanka); his siblings, Shirley Van Krevelen and Donald Evans; and his friend Wu Fang (Buddy Jane).

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
