He was predeceased by: his parents, Konsta Makela and Mary Makela (Saari); his wife Ellen Makela; his son Terrence Makela; and his siblings, Elvie Makela (Lehtimaki) and Arnold Makela.
He is survived by: his sons, Kent Makela (Jeanette), Dennis Makela (Marlene) and Randy Makela; and his grandchildren, Allan Makela (Tammy), Marc Makela (Jennifer), Robert Makela (Heather), Mary Malicoat (Jason), Jennifer Blackburn (Brain) and Lisa Cockerham (Bill). He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
