He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Cohan and Agnes Cohan (Peppard); his wife Nancy Cohan; his parents-in-law, William and Florence Fritsch; and his brothers-in-law, Ken Sondalle, Darryl Mangin and Gene Schrank.

He is survived by: his daughter Marie Knickerbocker (Kirk) of Bayfield, CO; his grandchildren, Micaela Prochazka (Logan) and Matthew Knickerbocker (Ellen); his son Brian Cohan; his granddaughters, Sabrina Haupt (Ryan), Megan Cohan and Emily Cohan; his daughter Linda Maurer (Mark); his grandchildren, Danielle, Adam, Jessica and Lisa Maurer; his great grandchildren, Bennett, Brooklyn, Brysen, Brynlee and Blair Haupt; his sister Jane Sondalle; and his siblings-in-law, William Fritsch (Betty), Glenn Fritsch (Gayle), Ed Fritsch, Helen Herrmann (Vic), Rita Mangin, Joyce Schrank, Sandi Isselmann (Tom) and Betty Modra (David) of Spring Grove, IL. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Our sincere sympathy to the family! I am sorry we missed John's funeral service, as I would have liked to be there to say goodbye to a wonderful uncle. I can remember back as a child spending time at your house at Christmas, and graduations, in which your parents were gracious hosts. I was such a young child, but, it was so nice to go out to see our aunts, and uncles, and cousins. My love, hugs, and prayers to you all. May John rest in Heavenly peace! God Bless!
