He was predeceased by: his parents, Marie Valitchka and Roy Valitchka; his son-in-law Denny Dohms (Dennis); his mother-in-law Lois Thurnau; and his brother-in-law Dallas Wixom.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Thurnau; his children, Mary Carey (Tim), Amy Gibson (George), Brian Valitchka (Brenda) and Melissa Dohms (Dennis); his grandchildren, Luke, Grace, Rosalind Carey, Henry, Eleanor, Amanda Gibson, Kate, Michael Valitchka and Alexis Dohms; his siblings, Ann Marie Wixom, Roy (Lucy), Joe (Sue), Tom (Margaret) and Phil Valitchka (Christine); and his siblings-in-law, Kay VonRuden (Ron Zahn) and Gary Thurnau (Shireen).
