He was predeceased by: his parents, Jean Pippel and Thelma Pippel (Bowman); his wife Betsy Schuette; his siblings, Fred, John Pippel and Marilyn Wilson; and his pets, Rufus and Lizzie.

He is survived by: his son Ross; and his brothers, Kerry Pippel (Cindy) and Keith Pippel (Brenda). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UW Madison Rugby Club, Illinois State Rugby Club, and the Dane County Humane Society.
