Robert Bernard Wendorf Obituary

Madison, Wisconsin – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert ("Bob") Bernard Wendorf, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished elder of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Bob, aged 97, peacefully departed from this world on August 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, faith, and unwavering commitment to his community.

Bob was born on December 1, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Alfred and Dorothy Wendorf. After graduating from Shorewood High School in 1944, Bob enlisted in the United States Army. He served two tours of duty in Korea, first, in 1946, and later, from 1951 to 1953. In 1952, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Bob married the love of his life, Dolores Wendorf, and received a degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1951. He went on to work in the construction field for over forty years, making a difference in the lives of many.

Bob's sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities. He had a remarkable ability to find joy and laughter even in the most challenging times, and it won him many friends over the years. Those at Our Savior remember Bob as a decent man and spiritual leader who spent time and energy to make the world a better place. Those at the Gables of Germantown, and Renaissance Senior Living in Madison remember Bob as a confidante and a loving, supportive presence. He enjoyed football, baseball, and tennis; traveling; and spending time at his cottage in Mount Morris.

Bob is survived by his son, Jeffrey, his daughter in law, Cathleen, and his grandsons, Eric and John. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, his brother, Eugene, and his daughters, Janice and Mary. Bob's family remembers him as a loving father, grandfather, and husband; a role model; and a man of profound faith and conviction.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, with a 10:00 a.m. visitation and 11:00 service at Our Savior Lutheran Church (6021 N. Santa Monica Blvd, Milwaukee). Friends and family are welcome to attend to celebrate Bob's life and memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bob's honor.
