He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Hanke and Florence Hanke (Smith); and his siblings, Ronald Hanke (Dorothy) and Rebecca Rice (Michael). He is survived by: his former wives, Mary Conroy and Judith Leighton; his daughter Rebecca Colleen; his wife Judi; his son Michael Hanke; his stepdaughters, Cyndee and Lisa Cook; and his siblings, Mark Hanke (Ellaine), Joyce Belkola and Judy Edwardsen. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
