He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Hefty and Anna Hefty (Kempfer); his former spouse Jean Gilbertson; his siblings, LaVerne and Carolyn Dell; and his brother-in-law John King.
He is survived by: his wife Sadie Paepke; his children, Dan (Jenny), David (Debbie), Tony, Anne Sieber (Phil), Kathy Zantow (Bob), Lorie Schaalma (Shaun) and Peggy Becker (Don); his stepchildren, Julie Griffiths (Chris), Doreen Hines and Gary Paepke; and his siblings, Don Hefty, Arlene King and Dinah Theis (Dick). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
