He was predeceased by: his parents, Matthew Surges and Evelyn Surges (Jablonowski); his sister Nancy Surges; and his brothers-in-law, Chauncey Bailey, Ray Rose and Robert Briggs.

He is survived by: his wife Kathie Surges; his daughters, Kim Post and Kelly Heier (Bill); his grandchildren, Noah, Hannah Post, Wyatt and Dylan Heier; his godson Joshua Thompson; and his siblings-in-law, Bev Bailey, Ruth Rose, Carole Briggs, Caroline Pietrowski (Don) and John Thompson (Lynda). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
