He was predeceased by: his parents, August Strauss and Bernice Strauss (Pohlman); his daughter-in-law Kathleen Strauss; his siblings-in-law, Doris Anderson, Carol Hofer, Kenneth Stelse, Melvin Anderson, Lawrence Kuhl and Lorin Hofer; his niece Nancy Anderson; and his grandson-in-law Brian Krull.

He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Hofer; his children, James Strauss (Corrine Ringgenberg), Thomas Strauss (Barbara), Kathleen Redmer (Greg) and Barbara Brandel (John Bubolz); his grandchildren, Bonnie Ganser (Harold), Matthew Brandel (Tracy), Bruce Strauss (Tammy), Cindy Krull, Scot Strauss (Christine), Tammy Chwala (Larry), Terri Bischoff, Tiffany Buchholtz (Brad), Jason Strauss and Jeffrey Strauss (Chelsea); his sister Beverly Stelse; his sisters-in-law, Joyce Kuhl and Mildred Zoern; and his sister Doris Stockfish. He is also survived by 29 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren.
