He was predeceased by: his parents, Matthew Merfeld and Clara Merfeld (Strasser); his mothers-in-law, Audrey Raith and Betty Hendrickson; his siblings, Marlene Robertson and Richard Merfeld (Dick); and his siblings-in-law, Jim Squier, Harold "Turtle" Tanke, Jerry Severson, Carrol "Pete" Pederson, Gene Delagrave, Ronald Faas, Gary Coorough, Richard Raith and Cathy Lundstad.
He is survived by: his nephew Rob; his wife Cheryl Raith; his children, Michael Merfeld (Christian) of Boston, MA, Robert Merfeld (Michelle Moore) of Madison and Rebecca Roob (Scott) of La Crosse; his grandchildren, Grace Smith, Lucy Roob and Matthew J. Merfeld; his sisters, Jeannette Delagrave, Joan Faas, Patti Grathen (Dick), Carol Tanke (Jim Kadlec) and Sue Molledahl (Dave); and his siblings-in-law, Marlene Merfeld, Steph Coorough, Danny Raith (Carol), Clare Raith (Linda) and David Raith.
A Mass was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 at 6:30 AM at the St. James the Less Catholic Church (1032 Caledonia St, La Crosse, WI 54603). A rosary was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 at 9:30 AM at the same location. A memorial service was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, November 8th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse or the Aquinas Foundation.
