He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Sokolik and Helen Sokolik (Schmidt); and his sister Janice Verkaaik. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie; his children, Bryan (Christine) and Shawn Schute (Travis); his grandchildren, Samantha, Breanna, Caylee, Cameron and Kaitlyn; his stepgrandsons, Bryce and Austin; and his sister Lorraine Sokolik.
