He was predeceased by: his parents, Reinhold Horst and Mathilda Horst (Schultz); his wife Monica Meyer; his son Steve; his great grandchild Makenzie; and his sister Audrey Chandler (Roger).

He is survived by: his sons, Mike Horst (Judy) and Jim Horst (Mike Lasser); his daughter-in-law Lisa Horst; his grandchildren, Joshua Horst, Jake Horst (Ashley), Chelsea Burris (Matt), Matt Horst (Shana) and Nick Horst (Kendra); his great grandchildren, Ari, Elise, Emma, Lyla, Maci, Cullen, Malcolm and Myles; and his nephews, Bill and Chuck (Chris).
