He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Rettler and Frances Rettler; his brothers, Daniel and Donald; and his parents-in-law, Harold, Ruth Schmidt, Jack Zalewski, Leroy and Mary Cay Schmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Jane Schmidt; his children, Benjamin (Heather) of Slinger, Andrew (Susan) of Kohlsville and Melissa Kratz (Ricky); his grandchildren, Cameron Heesen (Sydney), Clayton, Calvin, Kenzie Rettler, Lauren, Elsa Rettler, Kaylee, Abigail, Abel and Conner Kratz; his siblings, Mary Jane Lang (Richard), Thomas (Susan), Carol Maul (Sam), Joanne Butler (Jim), Sharon Kirchner (Keith), Barbie Nitz (Bryon) and Teresa Eisenhauer (Ike); and his siblings-in-law, Diane Zalewski, Joyce Bernhagen (Robert) and David Schmidt (Brenda Benishek). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerald will benefit the Outdoors Clubs at Slinger and Kewaskum High Schools.
