He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Verhagen and Christine Verhagen; his son-in-law David Hash; his siblings, Joseph, Joe, Earl, Richard (Blanche), Mark (Irene), Leone VandeHey (Fritz) and Ruth Rosin (Ervin); his father-in-law Adrian Jack Pynenberg (Leda); his stepmother-in-law Gen Pynenberg; and his siblings-in-law, Nancy Schreiter (John), Norb Pynenberg (Rosalie), Melvin Strobel, Gene Van Lanen, Dot Evers (Harry), Marion Schroth (Ray) and Rosemond Schmitzer (Wes).
He is survived by: his wife Theresa Verhagen (Pynenberg); his children, Paula Hash, Joe Verhagen (Chris), Jay Verhagen (Judy McCarthy), Keith Verhagen (Lori), Ken Verhagen and Sara Weyenberg (Patrick); his grandchildren, Paul Verhagen (Jolene), Laura Schmidt (Randy), Sam Verhagen (Emily), Rachel Wittman (Jake), Anne Wittman (Micah), John Weyenberg (Holly) and Kate Weyenberg (Blake Bentley); his great grandchildren, Noah, David Verhagen, Natalie, Mason Schmidt, Colton Wittman, Grace Wittman and Wade Verhagen; his sister Mary Jean Van Lanen; and his siblings-in-law, Dan Pynenberg (June) and Bernice Strobel.
In lieu of flowers, the family will make donations to St. Ignatius Catholic Schools and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
