She was predeceased by: her parents, Benjamin Thompson and Barbara Thompson; her sister Kimberly Austin; and her parents-in-law, George and Lucy Thiess.
She is survived by: her husband Brian Thiess; her children, Justin Thiess (Kristy), Erica Thiess (Scott Kosmo), Nicole Thiess (Chris Keen) and Cody Thiess (Shonda); her grandchildren, Hailey, Alexis, Ashley, Jack, Parker, Brecken, Addison, Grady, Carson, Natalee, Paxton and Elliott; and her brother Benjamin Thompson (Sharon Pointe).

Kathy married her high school sweetheart, Brian Thiess, and spent her greatest years alongside him, building on that foundation of love with each of her children as a dedicated mother, first and foremost.
