He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Campbell and Gypsie Campbell; his wife Betty New; and his daughter Theresa Short. He is survived by: his sister Cleo Campbell; his grandchildren, Tonya and Shawn; his niece Kim Deaton; his stepchildren, Dennis Schaffer (Vicky), Perry Schaffer (Wendy) and Belinda Boone; and his stepgrandchildren, Jason Mayo, Amanda Reddington, Matthew Boone and Zack Schaffer. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
