He was predeceased by: his parents, Clara Shields (Michels) and Timothy Shields; his parents-in-law, Merritt "Brownie" and Regena Brown; his siblings, Gerald Shields (Florence), Patrick Shields (Irene "Bunny"), Rose Marie DeWeese (Gaylord) and Marcella Liska (Gaylord); and his siblings-in-law, Tom Brown, Dale Brown, Barbara Nichols (Larry), Colleen Munger and Ruth Brown.

He is survived by: his wife Joanne Shields of Mary's Catholic Church; his son Tim Shields (Jennifer); his brother Bernard Shields (Joanne); and his siblings-in-law, Chet Brown, Brad Munger and Lori Brown.

Visitation was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 at 9:30 AM at the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church (313 E Wall St, Janesville, WI 53545). A funeral service was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
