Janet Mae Mortag (Henschel), August 25, 1936 – June 14, 2024 Janet Mortag, formerly of Jackson, WI, peacefully passed away into the loving arms of her Lord Jesus and welcomed into her eternal home by her awaiting family on June 14, 2024 at the age of 87 years old. Beloved wife for 56 years of the late Leigh Mortag. Loving and caring mother of Gary (Laura) Mortag, Michael (Shareen) Mortag and Andrea (Tom) Arndt. Adored Grandmother of Jenn, Danielle (Jesse), Jacob (Elizabeth), Jon (Jodi), Emily (Aaron), Lindsey (Will), Lauren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother, sisters and husband.
Janet was born to parents Palmer and Leona Henschel in 1936. She lived and grew up in Milwaukee with her 3 siblings Grace (Nord), Gordon (Julie) and Lois (Warren) and graduated from Washington High School. She worked at Square D where she met the love of her life, Leigh. Leigh and Janet were married on May 11, 1957and eventually moved to Brown Deer, WI where they raised their 3 children. She worked as a secretary for Badgar Protective Services and later worked as church secretary for 26 years at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Brown Deer. She loved to volunteer at the Economy Center helping sort donated items for sale.
Janet and Leigh loved to vacation in the north woods of Wisconsin and eventually purchased a cottage on Stearns Lake. Janet enjoyed paddling around the lake in her paddle boat and walking through the woods. She loved to be with her family up at the cottage. She loved to welcome and host get-togethers with friends and family with excellent home cooked meals.
Her loving kindness will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Our family is forever grateful for the compassionate love and support of her caregivers at Kathy Hospice, Cedar Community and Common Hearts Hospice. Mom was blessed to have you all in her life.
Celebration of Janet's Life service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, W196N9525 Cross View Way, Menomonee Falls, WI on Janet's birthday Sunday, August 25th at 1:00pm followed by a birthday cake reception.
