He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Schulz and Erna Schulz (Schaefer); his parents-in-law, Walter and Adeline Gunst; his son David; and his siblings, Ethel (Delmer Rahjes) and Glen Schulz.

He is survived by: his wife LaVerne Schulz (Gunst); his children, Eileen Wassermann (Randy) and Douglas Schulz (Rebecca); his granddaughters, Allison Williams (Liam), Abigail, Emily Schulz, Megan and Samantha Wassermann; his sister Karen Kahlhamer (Goar); and his siblings-in-law, LaVern Schulz, Dorothy Dorst, Elaine Rex (Claude), Leland Gunst and James Dorst. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church or the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight or Family Choice.
