He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Smieja and Sophie Smieja (Wiench); his sister Sara Waldera; and his siblings-in-law, Leander Waldera, Will Beck, Bill Andre and Eileen Halama.
He is survived by: his children, Celeste Schank (Willard) of Independence, James (Ellen) of Independence, Jorgette Pronschinske (John) of Arcadia, Perry of Independence, Micky (Dondie) of Independence, Trudy Butler of Prior Lake, MN and Ivy Noffke (Jared) of Holmen; and his sisters, Theresa "Tracy" Smieja of Independence and Marie Beck of Milwaukee. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
