He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Christian Alms and Leona Alms (Miller); his wife Carol Reed; his sons, Daniel (Susan Stehling) of Minneapolis, Anthony (Ina Surerus) of New York City, Jonathan (Paula Van Beckum) of Minneapolis and William (Bonnie Mathias) of Hudson; his grandchildren, Adrienne, Annemarie, Nathaniel and Everett; and his sisters, Carmen Podoll of Menomonie and Mary Dvarishkis (Pat) of Ballantine, Montana. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
