He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry DeGroot and Olga DeGroot (Krause); his wife Karen Bornfleth; and his son Terry (Wendy) of Cannon Falls, MN.. He is survived by: his son Craig (Ellen); his grandchildren, Erik, Heather, Colet, Mikaela Ritzman (Karl), Cole, Seth and Bryte; and his brothers, Felix, Ed and Art. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.
