He was predeceased by: his parents, Myrtle Eide (Sherman) and Osborne Knutson; his brother Noel Knutson; and his granddaughter Melissa Hatfield. He is survived by: his wife Gail Knutson; his family Teresa Ryan (Jeff); his children, Jennifer, Christina, Tyler, Katarina, Jared, Natasha and Hunter; and his family, Terry Knutson (Kayrn), Travis Knutson (Rebecca) and Jody Meissner (Jason).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hixton Fire Department or Second Chance Girl's Softball Club in Gary's memory.
