He was predeceased by: his parents, Esther Shuey (Otte) and James Hobart Shuey; his stepmother Dorothy Shuey (Van Raalte); and his stepbrother Carl Oppold. He is survived by: his former wife Jeannine Shuey (Oppold); his son-in-law Jake Wookey; his wife Jeanne; his daughters, Carrie Wookey (Jake) and Emily Shuey; his grandson George Taylor; his brothers, Thomas Shuey (Victoria) and David Shuey (Lou Ellen); his stepbrother Robert Oppold (Martha); his sister Kathleen Lamm (Robert); his stepbrother Kenner Oppold (Betsey); his brother Timothy Shuey; his stepbrother Charles Oppold; and his sister Anna Winesburg (Brad). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
