He was predeceased by: his parents, William Carroll and Mamie Carroll; and his siblings, Warren, Wesley, Willard, Oliver and Marion.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Korta; his former wife Joan Carroll; and his children, James Jr., Leon, David (Jenny), Brian (Dana), Bruce, Andy (Becky), Cathy Jones (Chris) and Mary Jo Wienk. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
