He was predeceased by: his parents, John L. Sr. Gruenewald and Marian Gruenewald; his wife Patty; his brother Jeff; and his brother-in-law Eugene Eckoldt.

He is survived by: his daughters, Tammy West (David) and Jamie Klecha (Greg); his grandchildren, Madison, Jack and McKenzie; and his siblings, Jim, Joe Gruenewald, Jae Eckoldt, Jackie Bochenstein (Bob), Janet Runingen (Al), Joyce Ellis (Tom) and Jill Gouger (Tom). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
