He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene Smith and Jean Smith; his brother John; and his brother-in-law Mike Lenz. He is survived by: his siblings, Linda Smith, Jackie Schuenemann (Paul), Brian Smith, Heidi Lenz and Amy Selsing (Jim); his nieces and nephews, Naida Keech (Stephen), Corie Lenz, Adam Lenz (Liz), Melonie Selsing (Davey), Scott Selsing (Andrea) and Clayton Selsing; and his brother-in-law Tim Selsing (Cathy). He is also survived by 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hanks family or to the American Diabetes Association and are appreciated.
