He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Roman Merkel and Doris Merkel (Bredl); his daughters, Patricia Merkel-Brunnquell (Mark), Pam Strohbusch (John) and Alicia McNally; his grandchildren, Jacob Brunnquell, Zachary Brunnquell, Micaela Brunnquell, Joshua Brunnquell and Kylie Strohbusch; and his nephew John Michael Berst.
