He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lawrence Mertes and Irene Mertes (Niemeyer); his wife Peg Zandrews of Trempealeau; his children, Jared (Kristin) of Savage, MN and Rachelle of Wabasha, MN; his grandchildren, Bradley Jacobs of Trempealeau, Braeden Jacobs of Galesville and Ashlyn Praxel of Wabasha; his brother Jerry Mertes (Pat) of Winona; and his nieces, Chris Fitzgerald (John) of Winona, Lynn Mertes of Altura, MN. and Cheryl Nash.
