James (affectionately called 'Jim') was born March 10, 1956, during the historic Central Wisconsin blizzard of 1956 which was particularly memorable to its residents for its long duration, heavy snowfall with totals of 20 to 30 inches, wind gusts exceeding 70 mph, snowfall totals reaching 38 inches, and drifts 30 to 40 feet high. His Big Flats Township parents; Charles Carl Bubla and expectant mother in active labor; Evelyn Loraine (Streeter) Bubla were escorted to the Riverview Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, WI by snow plow and WI State police for the birth of their second son.
